July at T.O. Westlake Karate Studio
July is here, and we have a fun month planned at T.O. Westlake Karate Studio. Along with our regular classes, we’ll be adding special summer workshops, a street clothes self-defense class, and our next lower rank promotion.
Summer can be a busy time for families, but it’s also a great opportunity for students to stay active, keep building confidence, and get extra training in areas they may not always get to focus on during regular class.
July Summer Workshops
This month, we’ll be hosting three special summer workshops on Fridays. Each workshop will run from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM and will focus on a specific area of training.
These workshops are designed to give students more time to learn, drill, and improve outside of their normal class schedule. Students will get extra reps, more focused instruction, and a chance to work on skills in a fun summer setting.
Friday, July 10th
Sweeps, Throws & Takedowns Workshop
Students will work on balance, control, falling safely, and how to use timing and leverage to take an opponent down.
Friday, July 17th
Sparring Skills & Strategy Workshop
This workshop will focus on movement, timing, distance, defense, and smart sparring habits. The goal is to help students feel more confident and controlled.
Friday, July 24th
Advanced Combinations Workshop
Students will work on building stronger combinations, improving flow, and adding creativity to their forms and movement.
Street Clothes Self-Defense Class
On Wednesday, July 22nd at 5:10 PM, we’ll be holding a special Street Clothes Self-Defense Class for white belts and up.
Students should wear comfortable athletic clothes instead of their karate uniform. This class will focus on awareness, movement, practical self-defense, and how martial arts techniques can apply outside of a traditional class setting.
It’s a great way for students to connect their training to real-life situations in a safe and structured environment.
Lower Rank Promotion
Our next Lower Rank Promotion will be held on Saturday, July 18th at 1:30 PM.
Students who are ready to test will receive more information as we get closer to the date. As always, testing is based on preparation, consistency, attitude, and progress in class.
Studio Closed for Independence Day Weekend
The studio will be closed Friday, July 3rd and Saturday, July 4th for Independence Day weekend.
We hope everyone enjoys the holiday, spends time with family, and comes back ready to train.
Stay Consistent This Summer
Summer schedules can get busy with vacations, camps, and family plans, but consistency still matters. Even a few good classes each week can help students maintain their progress, sharpen their skills, and stay connected to their training.
Keep showing up when you can, keep practicing, and use the summer as a chance to grow.
We’re looking forward to a great month of training.
